Description

Buttery, garlicky, decadent Asian-style noodles that are the perfect accompaniment to any protein.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Chow Mein Noodles (fresh If Possible)
  • ¼ cups Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 3 Tablespoons Minced Garlic
  • ¼ teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
  • ½ Tablespoons Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Maggi Seasoning Sauce
  • ¼ teaspoons Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
  • ¼ cups Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 stalk Scallion, Chopped
  • 2 pinches Toasted Sesame Seeds

Preparation

Cook chow mein noodles according to directions on package. Drain noodles, reserving a few tablespoons of the starchy water.

In a wok or large sauté pan, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until aromatic but not browned, approximately 1–2 minutes. Add red pepper flakes, sugar and Maggi (see note below). Stir until sugar is dissolved.

Remove wok from heat and quickly toss noodles into mixture. Sprinkle in black pepper and cheese. Toss noodles, ensuring that they are thoroughly covered. You may add a tablespoon of pasta water as needed to loosen the pasta.

Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with scallions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Note: Maggi Seasoning Sauce is a soy sauce-type condiment used in a lot of Asian cuisine. The flavor is very unique but when in a bind, a low sodium soy sauce can be substituted. However, the flavor will be very different.
