Description
A powdered sugar-laden bite of warm sweet fried dough.
Ingredients
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 cup Milk
- ¼ cups Melted Butter
- 2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1-½ Tablespoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
- Oil, For Frying
- ½ cups Powdered Sugar
Preparation
Lightly beat the egg in a bowl, then add milk and melted butter and mix together.
In a separate larger bowl mix the flour, baking powder, salt and granulated sugar. Add the milk mixture and stir until a smooth dough forms.
Heat at least 2″ of oil in a deep pot to 350ºF. (Pot should be big enough to fry 4 beignets at a time.)
When oil is hot, drop dough by rounded tablespoons into the hot oil leaving space in between them. I used a small ice cream scoop which worked well and helped to make beignets consistent in size and shape. Fry until beignets are dark golden brown. This should take about 2 minutes to insure that the dough is cooked through. Check one, to make sure your oil is at the correct temperature. Remove the fried beignets to a paper towel lined plate. Repeat frying the rest.
When they are all done, roll in a generous amount of powdered sugar.
