Description

Flaky puff pastry turnovers filled with sweet apples and dried cherries.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole Tart Apples, Peeled, Cored, And Cut Into 1/2-inch Pieces
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh Orange Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Orange Zest
  • ⅓ cups Dried Cherries
  • ¼ cups Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon All-purpose Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoons Ground Nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 1 package (17 Ounce Size) Frozen Puff Pastry, Thawed
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

2. Combine the apples, orange juice, orange zest, cherries, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl and toss to combine.

3. Place one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface and roll out to a 12-inch square. Cut into four smaller squares. Distribute some of the apple mixture in the center of each square of dough and fold the pastry over the fruit to form a triangle. Seal the edges by pressing them together with the tines of a fork. Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the tops of the triangles with the egg wash and cut a slit in the top of each turnover. Place on the prepared baking sheets. Repeat with the remaining puff pastry and apple filling.

4. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes, until golden brown all over. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
