Description
This hearty baked French toast has hints of orange and pecan. Make it the night before and sleep in a little longer in the morning. Perfect for 2 but easily doubles.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Thick, Hearty Whole Wheat Bread Cut In Large Cubes
- ⅓ cups Crushed Pecans
- 1-½ cup Milk
- 2 Eggs
- 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons Turbinado
- 1 dash Salt
- ½ whole Orange, Zest And Juice
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Preparation
1. Prepare this the night before.
2. Butter an 8″ x 8″ baking dish.
3. Cut bread and place into the dish. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
4. Whisk together milk, eggs, cinnamon, turbinado, salt, zest, juice, and vanilla in a separate bowl.
5. Pour mixture over bread. It should almost cover bread.
6. Cover and let sit overnight in fridge.
7. Morning of, preheat oven to 425°F. Sprinkle top with a pinch of turbinado. Bake for 30 minutes or until liquid is set. Cover with foil after 15 minutes to prevent burning.
8. Enjoy with warmed 100% pure maple syrup.
