Description
This is my own spin on the excellent drink called the Pimlico, invented by David Lentz at the restaurant The Hungry Cat, in Los Angeles. For more on both the original and the variation, see the related link.
Ingredients
- 3 sprigs Fresh Mint
- 3 Tablespoons Superfine (caster) Sugar
- ¾ ounces, fluid Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
- 2 ounces, fluid Bourbon
- ¾ ounces, fluid Freshly Squeezed Blood Orange Juice
Preparation
In a cocktail shaker, combine the leaves from the 3 mint sprigs with the sugar and lime juice. Use a wooden spoon or similar to smash/muddle the mixture until the mint is very aromatic. Add the bourbon and blood orange juice. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into a highball, julep, or similarly shaped glass filled with crushed ice and garnish with another mint sprig, if desired.
