Description

In India and Middle East, a spiced meatball is called kofta. Koftas consist of balls made with minced ground meat mixed with spices.

These fried chicken meatballs cooked in a rich spiced tomato sauce are simple, full of flavor, and make a delicious main dish that goes well with bread, rice, noodles or spaghetti.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE MEATBALLS:
  • 450 grams Ground Or Minced Chicken
  • 2  Onions, Grated
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Coriander (Cilantro) Leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon Ginger Paste Or Grated Fresh Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Paste or Crushed Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Red Chili Powder
  • Few Fresh Coriander (Cilantro) Leaves, Chopped
  • ½ teaspoons Turmeric Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt, Or To Taste
  • FOR THE SAUCE OR CURRY:
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 3  Cloves
  • 1 stick (1-inch Length) Cinnamon
  • 3  Green Cardamom
  • 1  Black Cardamom
  • 2  Onions, Chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger Paste/grated;
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Paste or Crushed Garlic
  • 4  Tomatoes, Chopped
  • Salt To Taste
  • 1 Tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • ½ teaspoons Nutmeg Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Red Chili Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Turmeric Powder
  • 1 cup Water
  • Few Coriander (Cilantro) Leaves, For Garnish
  • Oil, As Needed For Cooking

Preparation

For the meatballs:
In a big bowl, mix all ingredients. Form small meatballs.

Heat oil in a frying pan and add the meatballs. Fry until golden brown. Once done, remove them from pan and set aside on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

For the sauce:
In a deep pan over medium to medium-high heat, heat some oil. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick, green and black cardamom. When cumin seeds start to sizzle, add chopped onions and fry until onion starts to change color. Add ginger and garlic and stir fry for 1 minute.

Add chopped tomatoes, salt, and all powdered spices. Cook until tomatoes start to break down and begin to separate from oil.

Add water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and add meatballs. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Garnish with fresh coriander (cilantro) leaves.
