Grilling for Labor Day? Grilling the perfect burger can be a bit of a challenge. Follow this recipe! It’s foolproof.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Ground Beef, At Least 15% Fat
  • 2 Tablespoons Seasoned Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Black Pepper
  • ¼ cups Ketchup
  • ¼ cups Ranch Dressing
  • 1  Onion, Cut In Half Then Sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • 8  Hamburger Buns
  • Lettuce Leaves
  • 2  Tomatoes, Sliced
  • 2  Avocados, Pitted And Sliced

Preparation

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, season salt, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly, but do not over-work.

Make the secret sauce: mix ketchup and ranch dressing in a small bowl. Set aside for assembling burgers.

In a medium skillet, heat oil for a minute, then add sliced onions. Sauté on medium-low until soft and lightly caramelized, approximately 10 minutes. Set aside for assembling burgers.

Form patties by dividing ground beef mixture into 8 parts. Carefully mound each part into a sphere, then flatten to approximately 1-inch thick. Press firmly with your thumb in the middle of each patty to form an indentation.

Using long tongs, wipe grill grates with an oiled paper towel. This will prevent grilled burgers from sticking.

Place burgers on the gill and close the lid. Flip burgers after 4 minutes, and grill another 4 minutes. Remove from grill and lightly cover with aluminum foil. Let burgers rest 5 minutes. This should give you medium rare burgers. Adjust cooking time according to your taste.

Lightly toast buns on grill while burgers are resting. Assemble burgers with your choice of toppings. My favorites are the secret sauce, iceberg lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, avocado, and sauteed onions. Feel free to throw on some cheese, mustard, or raw onions if you like. Serve with potato chips and dig in!
