Description
Homemade French Onion Dip.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 whole Yellow Onion, Chopped
- 2 teaspoons Brown Sugar
- 1 clove Garlic, Minced
- 1 teaspoon Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- ⅓ cups Mayonnaise
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Parsley, Chopped
- ⅛ teaspoons White Pepper
- 1 pinch Salt To Taste
Preparation
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar over the onions, reduce heat to low and continue to cook for another 10 minutes, until onions turn deep golden and are caramelized. Add the minced garlic and and balsamic vinegar. Stir gently and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, parsley, and pepper. When onions have cooled off, add them to the sour cream mixture and stir. Use a stick blender to puree the dip to desired consistency. Add salt to taste, if desired. Refrigerate until cold or overnight. Serve with crackers, chips, or veggies.
Recipe note: The balsamic vinegar is just to add a little something extra, but it is not pronounced in this recipe. If you want more balsamic flavor, add more to taste.
