Description
If you want a meal without rice or carbs, this is it! I made a delicious filling with low-fat turkey, bell pepper, onion, cilantro and crunchy almonds, all flavored with a savory yet slightly sweet Hoisin and Sambal chili paste sauce. Then butter lettuce is wrapped around the filling for food heaven!
Ingredients
- ½ whole Onion
- ½ cups Cilantro
- 1 whole Red Bell Pepper, Stem And Seeds Removed
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 8 Tablespoons Hoisin Sauce
- 3 Tablespoons Sambal Chili Paste
- 1 Tablespoon Roasted Sesame Seed
- 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil Or As Needed For Saute Pan
- 1-¼ pound Low Fat Ground Turkey
- ½ teaspoons Salt
- ½ teaspoons Pepper
- ½ cups Sliced Almonds
- 1 head Butter Lettuce
Preparation
1. Dice onion, cilantro leaves and red bell pepper. Leave aside.
2. Mince garlic.
3. Prepare sauce. In a small bowl, add Hoisin sauce, Sambal and sesame seeds, and mix together. Leave aside.
4. In a large saute pan or wok, over medium-high heat, heat the oil. Add garlic and saute for about 15 seconds. Add ground turkey, salt and pepper. Stir and break up the meat as it cooks. Once turkey is fully cooked and browned, transfer it to a bowl.
5. Drain any extra liquid from the turkey out of the pan.
6. In the same hot pan, add a little extra oil. Add bell pepper and onion, and saute for 2-3 minutes until vegetables are wilted but still retain a little crunch.
7. Add turkey and sauce. Toss and cook until sauce covers turkey and vegetables. Finally add almonds and cilantro. Give a final toss so all the flavors come together.
8. On a plate, place a lettuce leaf. With a spoon, place some of the filling in the leaf. With your hand, fold the lettuce over the filling and pop it in your mouth.
