Description

Imagine coming down to breakfast to the delicious smells of apple and cinnamon wafting around the kitchen. This Overnight Apple and Cinnamon Porridge (oatmeal) recipe means you put everything in the slow cooker before you go to bed, and it’s done when you wake up. Perfect school fuel with slow-release energy oats, fruit and a little bit of spice. Nice!

Ingredients

  • 90 grams Porridge Oats
  • 700 milliliters Milk (or Use Half Milk, Half Water)
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2  Large Apples (or 3 Medium), Peeled, Cored And Cut Into Cubes
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter

Preparation

Grease the inside of your slow cooker with butter (unless using the double boiler method below, which I recommend!). Add oats, milk, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir thoroughly to dissolve the sugar (if using). Add apples.

Set your slow cooker to the Warm setting and cook overnight for approximately 7 hours.

Notes:
1. Every slow cooker is different. To avoid overcooking your porridge, first try this recipe during the day when you can supervise it.
2. To avoid burnt-on porridge on your slow cooker (really difficult to remove, believe me!), use the double boiler method. Place all your ingredients in a bowl that fits snugly inside your slow cooker. Pour water in the gap between the bowl and the slow cooker. Cook following the instructions.
3. To make ahead, put ingredients in the bowl earlier on in the day and pop in the fridge. That way, you only need to place the bowl in the slow cooker before you go to bed.
