Description

A pizza unlike any other. The dough is fried and finished in the oven. Everyone loved this one.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Batch Of Your Favorite Pizza Dough, Tossed Into A Size That Will Fit Into Your Large Skillet
  • 2 cups Canola Oil, Enough To Fill About 1 Inch Of Your Skillet
  • 1 cup Pizza Sauce
  • 1 whole Small Onion, Thinly Sliced
  • 1 package (7 Oz. Size) Sliced Pepperoni, Or Enough To Cover The Pizza
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Fresh Basil For Topping

Preparation

Note: These pizza toppings are to my family’s liking. Use your favorite toppings.

Roll dough out to roughly the same size as your skillet and about 1/4 inch thick. Take a fork and poke the dough all over. This will prevent the dough from bubbling when cooked in hot oil.

Heat large skillet on medium heat. Pour oil in until you have about 1 inch of oil in the skillet and heat to about 350ºF. Meanwhile, heat oven to 450ºF with a sheet pan inside.

Once oil is heated, carefully add dough to the skillet and fry for about 2 minutes. Using tongs, carefully flip it, cooking an additional 2 minutes. It should be a bit stiff and a light golden brown.

Lift the cooked dough from the oil, and let any excess oil drip back into the skillet. (I know you might be thinking this is going to be an oily mess, but trust me, it won’t. As a matter of fact, anyone might this was a pan-style or deep dish pizza if you don’t tell them how you made it.)

Place the dough onto a pizza peel. Add sauce, onions, pepperoni, and cover with mozzarella cheese. Slide onto preheated baking sheet and cook for about 5 minutes or so, or until cheese is nice and melted and sauce is heated through.

Remove and shower with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
