Description
I work down the street from a Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Not long ago I added up all that I had spent on smoothies in a month: $75. And that was one of the cheaper months. So I took my $75 last month and bought a new Kitchen Aid blender and ingredients to make my own smoothies at home. Here is one one of my easiest and most favorite recipes.
Ingredients
- 6-¾ ounces, fluid Mixed Berry Juice Box (I Use Minute Maid)
- 6 ounces, weight Container Light Vanilla Flavor Yogurt
- 1 cup Frozen Mixed Berries (strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries), Or 1 Cup Fresh Mixed Berries
- 2 cups Ice
Preparation
Start by adding the juice, yogurt and berries to a blender, and pulse until mixed well. Add the ice, small amounts at a time, pulsing until well blended.
I learned through many trial-and-errors that it is best to do the ice last as the liquid already in the blender will help keep the contents near the blade, preventing air pockets. Add as much or as little ice as you want to get the consistency you desire. I like ‘em thick, so I do roughly 2 cups.
About 270 calories and $1.25 (a savings of about $4.25 at a typical smoothie shop).
Optional: add a banana for a boost of energy and/or if you need to cut the tartness of the berries.
