Description
Thick, healthy, crunchy onion rings … minus all the frying and keeping all the yum. If there’s any way to make onion rings healthy while still being yummy, this is it! Good get-together food that is good for you.
Ingredients
- 2 whole Onions, Peeled
- ½ cups Flour
- 1 whole Egg, Whisked
- ½ bottles Beer (12 Ounce Bottle, I Like To Use A Darker Beer)
- 2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (optional Seasoning)
- 1 teaspoon Homemade Dried Hot Peppers (or Your Favorite Spicy Seasoning) – To Taste!
Preparation
Preheat oven to 425 F. Cover a rimmed cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with non-stick spray. Set aside.
Thickly slice the onions and separate the rings. Set aside.
Put half of the flour in one small shallow bowl.
Crack the egg into another medium, shallow bowl, beat the egg lightly then stir in the beer. Add the rest of the flour and whisk it all together.
Put panko crumbs and seasonings into a large Ziploc baggie.
Then, process the onion rings through this 3-step process: drench in flour, get ‘em wet by dipping them into the beer mixture then toss them in the crumb-baggie. Toss gently, to cover rings.
Use tongs to carefully take each onion ring out of the bag and place on the prepared cookie sheet. Repeat until all of the rings are coated. Bake until crispy on the outside, about 15-20 minutes.
