Description

Spiked Sour Apple Cider is where it’s at this holiday season. With vegan and paleo options, and needing just a handful of ingredients. Throw everything into the crockpot and forget about it!

Ingredients

  • 10 cups Water
  • 10  Apples (I Used Granny Smith And Jonagold)
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon Allspice
  • 1 pinch Ground Cloves
  • ⅔ cups 100% Pure Honey (paleo) Or Agave Nectar (vegan)
  • Rum, To Serve (See Note For Ratios)

Preparation

Add water to crockpot and set to 10 hours. Slice apples and add to the water. Stir in cinnamon, allspice, and ground cloves. Add honey or agave nectar.

Approximately halfway through cooking, mash apples with potato masher and stir.

Once cooking is compete, pour cider through a wire mesh strainer into a large mixing bowl. Repeat until all grainy bits are removed. Alternately, use a cheese cloth.

Store in glass jars. Heat prior to serving. After reheating, add rum.

Note: I like to add 2 tablespoons for every 8 ounces, and I add it after heating the cider. This ratio keeps the spices front and center while also letting the rum do its thing.
