Idli malgapodi, also known as idli podi, is a spicy chutney served with idli. Malgapodi, which is mixed with sesame oil or ghee, is served with idli or dosa.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Groundnut
  • 2 tbsp Chana dal
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • 2-3 dry red chillies
  • 2 tsp sesame
  • 2 tsp dry coconut (grated)
  • tsp cumin
  • 6-7 curry Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind pulp (optional)
  • 1 tsp Jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee as needed

Instructions

    1. To make idli podi, heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, add the red chilies, and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes.
    2. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
    3. After it has cooled, grind it in a mixer until it is a coarse powder.
    4. In the same nonstick pan, heat the urad dal, sesame seeds, and asafoetida for 2 minutes on low heat.
    5. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
    6. In a mixer, combine the powdered chillies, salt, urad dal-sesame mixture, and salt to make a smooth powder.
    7. Add the jaggery and continue to grind until the mixture is smooth. Serve the Idli Podi immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature and use within 15 days.ays
