Microwave cup cake recipe

The microwave cup cake, or even mug cake, is the quickest dessert available: 5 minutes is all it takes to have a steaming sweet to serve to friends or for an evening cuddle before a movie. This recipe was popular years ago, and it's making a comeback thanks to the cameo tortazza ad.

  • 1 egg2 tablespoons of sugar (50g)
  • 3 tablespoons of milk (30g)
  • 3 tablespoons of butter (24g)
  • 3 tablespoons of flour (60g)
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa (20g)
  • half a teaspoon of baking powder (5g)
  • powdered sugar


    1. Pour the egg into a mug-like cup.
    2. Add the sugar and stir to combine.
    3. Stir in the milk (which must not be cold from the fridge).
    4. Melt the butter and stir it in.
    5. Sift in the cocoa, flour, and baking powder.
    6. Combine everything.
    7. Divide the mixture evenly between two cups.
    8. Cook for 2 minutes in a microwave at 800 watts. Serve with a dusting of icing sugar.
