Ingredients

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 cups butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 Cup of water
  • 1/4 cup low calorie corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Vegetable colors, to taste

Instructions

    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of the icing sugar, the butter, the vanilla, 1 teaspoon of the almond extract, and the eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed, or by hand with a spoon. Combine the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar in a mixing bowl. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, covered.
    2. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease the tray or baking sheet lightly. Make two equal parts of the dough. Flatten each half to 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Using 3-inch cookie cutters, cut out the desired shapes. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
    3. 5–7 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack for 30 minutes.
    4. In a small mixing bowl, combine all glaze ingredients (except the vegetable colors) and whisk on low speed until smooth. Divide it up into small containers. Drop by drop, add the vegetable colors until you achieve the desired colors. Decorate the cookies as desired with frosting and other decorations.
